Hiking the Mont St-Hilaire

Mont Saint Hilaire

Tired of climbing Mont Royal all the time, Looking for a great new hiking destination near the city of Montreal. Well here is a great idea, grab your running shoes and drive to Mont St-Hilaire. Only 40 -45 min drive from downtown Montreal.

Here is what you need:

Running shoes
2 bottles of water
2 energy bars (just in case you are hungry at the top)

First check out the map at the main entrance and choose the trail you want to hike. There are several trails to reach the four main summits or high points of Mont Saint-Hilaire.

Pain de Sucre (Sugarloaf)
On Sunday we chose to take the Sugar loaf hiking trail. Follow the yellow markers all the way up to the top. ” Pain de sucre”  is 2,6 km long to a high point of 415 metres. It took us about an hour to get the top of the mountain (easy hike for all ages) and enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Hertel, nearby Rougemont and the city of Montreal. Don’t forget to take a selfie after your great work out !!!!!!

How to get there:

From Downtown Montreal, take the Champlain bridge towards South Shore and take the 20.

From the 20 take exit 112 and follow the signs to the Centre de la Nature de mont Saint-Hilaire.

Parking available, get there early because it gets really crowded at noon.
