Week-end getaway in Burlington, Vermont

Last week-end we decided to take a road trip to Vermont with our friends and we had a blast. On Saturday morning we packed our stuff really early and we headed to North Beach which is situated  at Champlain Lake in Burlington, Vermont.  Only 160 km away from downtown Montreal, this beautiful spot is all you need for your perfect week-end getaway. The entrance to the park is only 8 dollars per vehicule and you can also bring your own food and drinks to the beach, which we did. We had our own french montrealer picnic version at the beach (wine + cheese+bread+grapes) and of course Samuel Adams beer.

On the other hand, if you have kids, this is an excellent playground, the water is clean, the beach is wide and spacious. There are lifeguards everywhere,  they are constantly patroling and they make sure the rules are well respected. If you’re looking for a spot to spend a day on the shore and admire the beatiful Lake Champlain this would be a great choice.

On this occasion, we stayed at the Sheraton Hotel which was really well situated and pretty convenient. Just before sunset we went back to the hotel, took a shower and then we headed back to downton Burlington (Church St) which is one of the main streets, where you’ll find cute little restaurants, boutiques and local shops. For dinner, we stopped at Farmhouse Tap & Grill, where they serve wordclass craft beer, great burgers and delicious homemade sauces.  We sat down at the picnic tables on the patio,  had drinks, a couple of appetizers and some burgers and enjoyed a beautiful evenening.

On sunday morning we grabbed a quick breakfast at New Moon which is located on Cherry St, the coffee was great as and the breakfast burrito (cobb) was excellent. We walked down Church st and the place was packed with people doing Yoga in the street, we were kind of dissappointed because we didn’t know about the event and we would’ve liked to participate. Then we headed down to the pier,  walked alongside the waterfront, enjoyed the view and then went back to the beach again because we loved it so much the day before.

Before leaving Burlington,  we treated ourselves and enjoyed a delicious ice cream from the famous Ben & Jerrys. I know that we have it in Montreal, but I think it just tastes better over there.
